Mini Courses on Recent Advances in Hyperbolic 3-manifolds
Description
Jeff Brock, Ken Bromberg, Dick Canary and Juan Souto will give an 8-lecture minicourse on hyperbolic geometry and the deformation theory of hyperbolic 3-manifolds. The lectures will begin with a short introduction to the basic features of hyperbolic 3-manifolds, and describe the main structural conjectures which have recently been settled. There will be more detailed lectures discussing the proofs of the Tameness Conjecture and the Ending Lamination Conjecture, the phenomenon of bumping of components in the deformation space (analogous to parabolic bifurcations in dynamics), and further work on obtaining uniform estimates on the geometry of hyperbolic 3-manifolds from topological data.
