What the Numbers Say: How Can We Get to a Safer Summer?
Description
For the past 14 months, Canadians have made enormous sacrifices to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Despite these efforts, we are still waking up to headlines about third wave spikes, variants of concern, overwhelmed hospitals, and continued restrictions. Where do we go from here?
Efforts by Ontario’s Science Advisory Table to model the pandemic have consistently shown that public health measures and vaccines can save lives. In the last few days, Ontarians slowed the pace at which infections are growing, and modelling shows the growth in infections will continue to slow down if current measures continue.
As we enter another difficult phase of the pandemic, the Fields Institute is hosting a panel of members of the Science Advisory Table as part of our “What the Numbers Say” series. This is an opportunity to hear directly about the modelling and advisory process, and what each of us can do to get the current outbreak under control so we can enjoy a much-needed summer.
