It was recently observed that algebraic combinatorialists and commutative algebraists had been using similar techniques to study different problems. These connections were highlighted in a successful meeting that took place in January 2004 at Queen's University in Kingston. In this meeting, through a series of expository lectures by Tony Geramita and Fran\c{c}ois Bergeron, among others, it was made evident that interesting special cases of the notion of Macaulay's inverse systems of Commutative Algebra are essentially the same objects as coinvariants spaces studied in Algebraic Combinatorics and Representation Theory.
This meeting will be a continuation of the first meeting in Kingston.
At the end of the Kingston meeting a session was held where open problems
and new directions were discussed and a list of relevant open problems
to guide further research was compiled. As a result, several of the
participants have begun collaborations on new research topics, applying
techniques from Algebraic Combinatorics to examine conjectures in Commutative
Algebra and vice-versa.
Our goal is to provide a forum for reporting recent progress, as well as introducing young researchers to this field. We plan to have expository talks, and spend the rest of the time discussing open problems and methods to approach them.
