In this talk I will explain Langlands’ proposal of beyond endoscopy

with stable trace formulas and Arthur’s refined strategy with primitization of

stable trace formulas and beyond endoscopic data. A critical question to both

the original proposal and its refinement is the determination of functorial source

group associated to an automorphic representation of Ramanujan type. I will

present some progress on this problem through the study of dimenison data.
