Abstract:
This century has seen quite a few interesting developments with regard to the invariant subspace problem (ISP). The talk will revisit and discuss some of these developments in particular: existence of Banach spaces with “relatively few” operators which all have invariant subspaces, extension of dual algebra techniques to obtain invariant subspaces for certain polynomially bounded operators on Banach spaces, sufficient conditions for “simple” perturbations of “well-known” operators to have invariant or hyperinvariant subspaces, existence of almost invariant subspaces, return to (and extension of) different kind of models and/or formulations of the ISP.
