In this talk, we discuss two classical problems in number theory: expressing numbers as sums of two cubes (the cube sum Problem) and identifying congruent numbers (the congruent number problem). We explain how both problems are related to the study of rational solutions of elliptic curves. We also briefly describe how properties of these curves help understand when solutions exist.
