Spec$(\bar{Q}(\zeta(3)))$
Description
After the success and impact of Spec$(\overline{Q})$, held at the Fields Institute in 2022, and the second in the series in 2024, Spec$(\bar{Q}(2\pi i))$, we again aim to celebrate and promote research advances of 2SLGBTQI (2-spirited, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex) mathematicians specialising in algebraic geometry, arithmetic geometry, commutative algebra, and number theory. The first two conferences proved to be extremely important to lay the foundations for a fertile, supportive and stimulating scientific queer community in the areas of algebraic geometry, commutative algebra and number theory. Building on the strengths of these earlier iterations, Spec$(\bar{Q}(\zeta(3)))$ will create an empowering and engaging environment which provides 2SLGBTQI visibility in algebraic geometry, will support junior 2SLGBTQI academics, and will crystallise new collaborative networks for participants.

Due to the FIFA World Cup 2026, hotel accommodations are very expensive in Toronto (around 500 CAD/night or more). The maximum nightly reimbursement we can offer is 300 CAD/night, so would like to share some alternative options:
- We have reserved a block of rooms for conference participants at Toronto Metropolitan University's International Living Center at 240 Jarvis Street. This is near the gay part of town and a half hour walk or 18 minute bus trip from the Fields Institute. They offer single rooms with private bathrooms and air conditioning. The cost is $150 CAD + tax/night, due upon arrival. For more details see: https://www.torontomu.ca/summer-stay/rooms/ilc/#!accordion-1507223711744... book a room with our block, use promo code: SQB2026. Please book your room as soon as possible, as they can only hold a limited number of rooms at a time. (If all rooms in our block get booked, we can request a second block if still available -- please do move quickly if you're interested in this option!)
- New College Residences on University of Toronto campus has single dorm rooms available with shared hallway washrooms. This is an 8 minute walk from the Fields Institute and costs $72/night. You can book a room at the following link: https://ncsummer.utoronto.ca/book-a-room/. On their website they write: As we have limited gender neutral washrooms and only in Wetmore Hall, please email
if you are specifically looking for this accommodation and we can see if it's possible.
- CampusOne Toronto offers 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom shared apartments. They are located a 2 minute walk from the Fields Institute and a room costs $350-400 CAD/night (approx 100 CAD/room/night). You can email
to request a booking.
- Hotel prices are less expensive further from downtown. Public transportation in Toronto is easy -- you just need your credit card. The Fields Institute is 3 blocks from the Queen's Park subway station.
- Airbnb may be cheaper than a hotel, though we expect their prices to climb quickly too as June approaches.
Please note that the Fields Institute does not work with a third-party company to provide hotel booking services to our participants/visitors. If you receive any emails claiming so, please disregard them as they are scams.
